ABOUT IN THIS MOMENT

Los Angeles-based alternative metal band In This Moment was formed in 2005 by singer Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth, under the name Dying Star. The duo had met at an audition in 2004. The pair recruited drummer Jeff Fabb and performed as a trio for a while, but were dissatisfied with their musical direction. They changed their name to In This Moment and gained guitarist Blake Bunzel and bassist Josh Newell. Later that year, Newell left the band to be replaced by Jesse Landry.

CAREER

2005-2008: Beginnings and Beautiful Tragedy

After performing with its new line-up for a while, the band gained a manager in Ozzy Osbourne’s bassist, Rob "Blasko" Nicholson, who discovered them through MySpace. By mid-2005, the band had grown a sizeable fanbase and drew the attention of Century Media Records, who offered them a worldwide record deal.

The band’s debut album Beautiful Tragedy was released on March 20, 2007. It launched the singles "Prayers", and the title track "Beautiful Tragedy". The album peaked at number 14 on the Heatseekers Albums chart and number 35 on the Independent Albums chart. In support of the album, the band performed on several tours including The Hottest Chicks in Metal Tour 2007 with Lacuna Coil, Ozzfest in 2007 and 2008, Megadeth, and the Rob Zombie and Ozzy Osbourne tour.

In 2008, they recorded a cover of Lacuna Coil's "Heaven's a Lie" as a collaboration with the band Manntis for Century Media Records's Covering 20 Years of Extreme cover album.

2008-2009: The Dream

The band’s second album, Dream, was released in September 2008 and marked the band’s debut on the Billboard 200. It also reached number 12 on the Top Rock Albums chart. To support the release, the band went on tour with Five Finger Death Punch, Mudvayne, Papa Roach, and Filter. In the UK, they performed on the 2008 Give It a Name Tour and in summer 2009 they played at Download Festival. That summer, they also toured the US on the Vans Warped Tour. A cover of Blondie's "Call Me", which appears on a special edition of The Dream titled The Dream: Ultraviolet Edition, was released as the album’s second single.

Towards the end of 2009, the band embarked on their first headlining tour titled A Winter to Remember Tour, bringing along In Fear and Faith, Agraceful, and Motionless in White as support.

2010-2011: A Star-Crossed Wasteland

Maria Brink was named the Hottest Chick in Metal at the Revolver Golden God Awards in April 2010. That July, the band released its third studio album, A Star-Crossed Wasteland.  The album's first single, "The Gun Show" was released to iTunes on June 1, 2010, and debuted at number 40 on the Billboard 200. It also reached number one on the Top Independent Albums chart, number four on the Hard Rock Albums chart, number eight on the Modern Rock/Hard Rock Albums chart, and number 13 on the Top Rock Albums chart. The following month, the band played Mayhem Festival 2010. Then, in September, they released the single, "The Promise", along with its music video. On November 21, 2010, it was announced that In This Moment would play alongside Sevendust, Disturbed, and Korn in the Music as a Weapon V tour. Not long after, they joined  Straight Line Stitch, System Divide, and Sister Sin on the Hell Hath No Fury Tour and  Emmure, Alesana, Iwrestledabearonce, Blessthefall, For Today, Born of Osiris, Motionless in White, Sleeping with Sirens on the All-Stars Tour.

2011-2014: Blood and Blood at the Orpheum

In 2011, In This Moment parted ways with longtime manager Rob "Blasko" Nicholson, and founding members Blake Bunzel and Jeff Fabb also left the band. That November, the band took part in the ShipRocked music cruise alongside Candlebox, Hinder, Filter, Sevendust, and Buckcherry, among others.

August 2012 saw the release of the band’s fourth studio album, Blood. The album was a hit, reaching the top 15 on both the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums chart. It also reached number five on Billboard’s Independent Albums, Top Alternative Albums, and Top Rock Albums charts, and it topped the Top Hard Rock Albums chart. Both the album and its title track have been certified gold by the RIAA.

In May 2013, the band recorded a live album, Blood at the Orpheum, at the Orpheum Theater in Madison, Wisconsin. The album was released on January 21, 2014, and features interviews with Maria along with behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage.

In fall 2013, the band headlined The Hellpop Tour with Motionless in White, West Hollywood heavy metal ensemble All Hail the Yeti, and Kyng. They embarked upon the tour’s second leg in early-2014.

2014-2016: Black Widow and The Rise of the Blood Legion

In February 2014, In This Moment left Century Media and signed with Atlantic Records. "Sick Like Me" from the band's debut major-label album, Black Widow, was released on September 9, 2014. The album itself was released in November, debuting in the top 10 of the Billboard 200, Top Hard Rock Albums, and Top Rock Albums charts. The album's second single, "Big Bad Wolf" was released in October, followed by "Sex Metal Barbie". The band performed at Knotfest on October 25, 2014, before heading out the next day on the Black Widow headline tour, which lasted through December with Starset, Twelve Foot Ninja, and 3 Pill Morning in support.

The band resumed the Black Widow Tour throughout 2015 in Europe and the U.S, followed by supporting slots for Papa Roach, Five Finger Death Punch, and Godsmack.

Century Media released a compilation album called Rise of the Blood Legion: Greatest Hits (Chapter 1) in May 2015 to celebrate the band’s 10th anniversary, including songs from the band's four releases with the label.

In March 2016, drummer Tom Hane left to be replaced by Kent Dimmel, the drummer from 3 by Design. The June, they played The Hellpop 2016 Tour with openers Hellyeah, Sunflower Dead, and Shaman's Harvest before joining Rob Zombie and Korn for their summer tour.

2017-2018: Ritual

In March 2017, the band was signed to Roadrunner Records, alongside their current label, Atlantic Records. The following month, they kicked off their Half God, Half Devil Tour with supporting acts Gemini Syndrome, Avatar, and Motionless in White for the first leg,  Motionless in White, Vimic, Starset, and Little Miss Nasty for the second, and  Of Mice & Men and Avatar for the fall run.

Ritual, the band’s sixth studio album, was released in July 2017. A concept album revolving around a witch during the Salem witch trials, it hit number 23 on the Billboard 200 and hit the top 10 of two other Billboard charts.

2019-present: Mother

In 2019, In This Moment embarked on a spring headlining tour and then joined Disturbed as support for the second leg of their summer tour. The following March, they headlined another US tour and also released their seventh studio album, Mother. The album hit number two on both the Top Rock Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums charts and number 34 on the Billboard 200. In November 2020, the band was nominated for their first Grammy award in the category of Best Metal Performance category for the song "The In-Between."

In September 2021, the band embarked on the In-Between Tour with Black Veil Brides, Ded, and Raven Black, which had initially been scheduled for March 2020 but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
